Wildflower Turf Ltd is the leading supplier of Wildflower turf products in the UK. The company was first to develop the Wildflower Turf concept in 2003 and now produces a range of innovative turf products that have considerable benefits to specifiers, installers, estate managers and landowners. The company has an award winning pedigree and implements a policy of “ continuous improvement to retain and build upon it’s industry leading position.” In the search for an efficient, beautiful and wildlife-friendly solution to establish a wildflower meadow in a garden environment, Frank Adriaenssens got to know the Wildflower Turf products 4 years ago. After personal experience, he was fascinated by the uncomplicated and pure beauty of these natural products, combined with its high quality and ease of use. As Wildflower Turf fits in perfectly in a fast moving world where “ slow food” and “ back to basics” gain more area everyday, the idea for a collaboration to secure the presence of Wildflower Turf in the Benelux took form. The dealership was established in 2014.
The Hewetson-Brown family have been farming in Hampshire for three generations. In 2003 managing partner James Hewetson-Brown started Wildflower Turf, a subsidiary enterprise, and developed the growing of Wildflower Turf to meet the demand for readymade wildflower meadows without the establishment problems associated with traditional seeding methods. Wildflower Turf has continued to expand successfully as a business over the years, fine tuning its seed mixes and techniques to produce a unique and high quality product.
Production revolves around a dedicated team of 8 staff on a 10 hectare site with an annual capacity to supply 100,000 m² of turf to a diverse private and commercial customer base including gardeners, landscape contractors, architects, and educational establishments. Among its customer base, Wildflower Turf can count in the 2012 Olympics, where it provided meadows for the opening ceremony and sites of the Olympic Village. Furthermore, Wildflower Turf supplied its products for famous filmsets such as the harry potter movies and warhorse by Steven Spielberg.
Wildflower Turf is currently working with a number of organisations to help create wildlife friendly environments for species such as bees, butterflies, voles and slow worms, to name a few. These organisations include The Natural History Museum, Sainsbury’s, The Environment Agency and Natural England. A number of councils throughout the country have used the turf to improve parks and open spaces in their areas, and many more have made enquiries for future projects.
Wilflower Turf is proud to have achieved a number of high profile awards for its Wildflower Turf including The Inspire Awards 2010 Micro Business of the Year, the 2010 Hampshire Magazine Business of the Year, and the 2008 Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sustainability Business Award for Environment Innovation and Technology.
